Disciplines sneak peek + progress update
Good evening my fellow Kindred,
Another month has passed so it’s time for another update. Yes, we’ll try to make them more regular by posting them around the 13th of every month. If you are interested in the project, go ahead and mark that date in your calendar 😀
First of all, let’s welcome our new programmer - S’Mor! They already started to work with us with combat scripting - a vital part of our upcoming cut-content release. Don’t worry, we scanned them for any traces of possible affiliations with the Second Inquisition - all our sources say they are clean.
What else do I want to talk about in this dev diary?
Well, let me tell you that we are working hard and hot. We are brainstorming plot left and right, and our lone and best system designer - Foxyboxes - is racing with ideas about character development as well as the game systems in general. It was a really intensive month for us! The latest of our developments regards Disciplines. We have a lot of different ideas and we would like to hear which one we should showcase as an example.
In general - we decided to keep disciplines not strictly following the ones in the TTRPG handbooks. Obviously, they are a base that we are building on, but you have to be aware that many of them are difficult to translate into computer games. Especially those which are more open. We value usability and versatility, but we also have to take into account if given Discipline power will be possible to implement. Don’t fret though, we don’t plan to throw away any of the Disciplines altogether. Everything you expect will be there - from summoning coyotes with Animalism to summoning zombies with Oblivion. We also plan to make them diverse - you will have passive powers as well as active ones.
What we are changing is their structure. We don’t want to make them linear like in the TTRPG. Our Disciplines will be a power tree that will allow you to choose given powers and continue augmenting them if you’ll feel the need, or go and mix them up with another branch for a more balanced character. The only exceptions will be Blood Sorcery and Oblivion - two distinct Disciplines that allow you to utilize Rituals or Ceremonies (yes, we are planning those too). If you want to be any good at either of those, you'll need to invest points heavily and do a loooot of sidequesting.
And here comes the question for our little community. We would like to give you a full preview of one of the Disciplines. The question is, which one? For now, you can choose between Animalism, Auspex, Blood Sorcery, or Celerity. Let us know below in the comments!
Remember also to check our composer’s - Edifice of Echoes - Youtube channel where he uploaded songs he composed for us. Relax, take a deep breath, leave a comment, and tune in to the music of the night.
